Freehold, Manalapan capture top seeds in Shore Conference Tournament

Oct. 21, 2013   | |APP  Staff report
The Freehold girls soccer team — last year’s runner-up in the Shore Conference Tournament final — received this year’s top seed and defending Shore Conference Tournament champion Toms River North got the No. 4 seed when the girls soccer SCT committee met on Monday evening to decide this year’s tournament seeds.
Toms River South got the No. 2 seed, Freehold Township secured the No. 3 seed and Holmdel was picked as the No. 5 seed to round out the top five seeds in this year’s SCT tournament.
Unlike last year, the Shore Conference has no undefeated girls soccer teams entering the SCT but has three teams with only one loss — Toms River South (14-1), Freehold (14-1) and No. 13 seed Central (10-1).
Red Bank Catholic, the No. 6 seed, and Holmdel each finished with the same division record but Holmdel got the higher seed because the Hornets beat the Caseys in the first regular season meeting and then the schools tied in the second regular season showdown.
St. Rose, Wall, Manalapan and Jackson Memorial were the seventh through 10th seeds in the tournament and the top nine seeds get first round byes. Preliminary round games are Wednesday. Second round games will be Friday and the quarterfinals will be played Oct. 21. The semifinals are a doubleheader on Oct. 23 at Neptune and the SCT final will be 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 at Neptune.
