NJ girls soccer power rankings (10/2/12)
RANK | TEAM | REC | LW | COMMENTS | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Northern Highlands | 8-0 | 1 |
Looking for some numbers to truly capture just how dominant the
Highlanders have been over the first month? How ‘bout the idea they’ve
outscored their first eight opponents by an aggregate score of 44-1?
You’ll be hard pressed to find a hotter offensive weapon right now than
junior Clare Shea, who 14 goals, while senior center back Jackie Reyneke
is not only locking down the defensive third, but also has 11 assists. | |
2 | Montgomery | 7-1-1 | 2 |
A goal rush has unfolded in Skillman. Montgomery erupted for 22 strikes
in its last three victories. Megan Kowalski has accounted for six of
those strikes. The Cougars can anticipate a more defensive-minded affair
tonight when they host No. 12 Pingry. | |
3 | Livingston | 7-0-1 | 3 |
Juniors Jordy Bonvini (three goals, three assists) and Erica Dippold
(six goals, one assists) embody the depth of Livingston’s overwhelming
offense. The two unsung contributors strike at the immense depth the
Lancers tap into when moving forward. | |
4 | Ramapo | 6-1 | 4 |
Sarah Scire delivered a second-half equalizer and Jen Andresen
converted a penalty kick late in regulation last Monday to help the
Raiders rally past No. 11 Immaculate Heart, 2-1. | |
5 | Piscataway | 9-0-1 | 6 |
The Chiefs earned one of the program’s biggest signature triumphs last
Monday when they went on the road and defeated No. 7 Ridge, 1-0.
Sophomore forward Kelsey Nugent (eight goals, five assists), who has
thrived playing off senior striker Daija Griffin (14 goals, six
assists), delivered the decisive goal off a setup by her South
Carolina-bound teammate and senior keeper Kristyn Shea protected the
lead with 11 saves. | |
6 | Freehold Boro | 9-0 | 8 |
There’s nothing flat about the Colonials’ defense other than the actual
shape. The quartet of sophomores Lindsay Cerio and Sophia Duffy, junior
Christina Stabile and senior Chelsi Bender maintain ideal shape through
their communication and have combined with senior keeper Sara Cobb on
nine clean sheets. | |
7 | Ridge | 5-2-2 | 5 |
Ridge could be a bit ornery today when it takes the field against
Franklin. The Red Devils have had eight days to stew over their 1-0 loss
to No. 5 Piscataway. Versatile sophomore Jenny Haskel has a way of
enlivening the troops with her electrifying runs, whether they
materialize out of the back or the midfield. | |
8 | Glen Rock | 9-0 | 9 |
The strong midfield presence of Kendall Daly, Hannah Petrone and
Jennifer Godfrey allows the Panthers to quickly take charge of the
neutral third and engineer both ends of the field. Glen Rock advanced
out of the first round of the Bergen County Tournament on Sunday with a
4-0 showing over Holy Angels. Senior Sophie Lederer powered the offense
with a hat trick. | |
9 | Watchung Hills | 6-2 | 10 |
Ally Grunstein scored in two straight matches last week, but no strike
carried more weight than the one she delivered off a feed from Samantha
DePinho that lifted Watchung Hills past previously-ranked Scotch Plains,
1-0. Lindsey Carroll halted seven shots in the shutout. | |
10 | Bridgewater-Raritan | 6-2-2 | 11 |
A 4-0 week was stamped by big wins over No. 11 Immaculate Heart and
Bishop Ahr. Ally Morgan deposited two goals in the former triumph while
Erin Sullivan headed in a golden goal off a Lauren Hall Cross to secure
the latter. | |
11 | Immaculate Heart Academy | 4-2 | 12 |
The Blue Eagles bounced back in resounding fashion from consecutive
one-goal setbacks to No. 4 Ramapo and No. 10 Bridgewater-Raritan.
Alexandria Mesropyan knocked in a pair of goals to key a 7-0 victory
over Hackensack in the opening round of the Bergen County Tournament. | |
12 | Pingry | 6-2 | 13 |
The Big Blue will carry a three-game winning streak into the marquee
matchup with Montgomery tonight. Alexis Chang has provided from scoring
punch off the wings, depositing four goals over the last three contests,
including a hat trick on Saturday in a 5-1 victory over Lawrenceville. | |
13 | Clifton | 5-0 | -- |
Jennie Hornstra supplied two goals as well as an assist as the Mustangs
picked up their biggest win so far this season on Saturday when they
handed Wayne Valley its first loss, 4-2. Junior keeper Rachel Egyed has
recorded four shutouts. | |
14 | Wall | 8-1 | -- |
Since dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 6 Freehold Boro on Sept. 20, the
Crimson Knights have run off a string of four triumphs, outscoring the
opposition, 11-1, along the way. Casey Zalewski (eight goals, five
assists), Ariana DeBlasio (six goals), Colleen Knier (three goals, five
assists) and Heather Arbachesky (five goals, two assists) have been
steady contributors to the offense. | |
15 | West Morris | 8-0 | -- |
One of the many reasons the Morris County school is off to such a
flying start is the number of players it has flying into the offensive
third. Eleven different players have found the back of the net so far,
led by Autumn Webb (seven goals) and Emily Thomas (five goals). |
