Girls Soccer: Central Jersey, Group 4 preview
By Jeremy Schneider | NJ Advance Media For NJ.com on November 02, 2014 11:48 p.m.

THE FAVORITEThere's no questioning Hunterdon Central's status as the favorite in this section. In fact, the Red Devils are one of the big favorites in Group 4 overall. The West Jersey power boasts a potent offense led by Allison DeLuca and Christine Tack. Bristol Pizzuto, meanwhile, is one of the best keepers in the state. The team is well coached, and is a legitimate threat to win the Group 4 championship.
CONTENDERS
Hillsborough is one of the biggest surprises of the girls soccer season, battling through the Skyland Conference and into The NJ.com Top 20 with victories over Old Bridge, Watchung Hills and a pair of triumphs over Pingry. South Brunswick looked like it could be the class of the Greater Middlesex Conference before falling to an experienced East Brunswick side in the county semifinals — once again proving that you can never sleep on East Brunswick. Freehold Township and Freehold Borough both had their share of impressive wins in the Shore Conference this year as well.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Hunterdon Central had a fantastic season last year, but it would have been even better if forward Allison DeLuca hadn't torn her ACL before the start of the state tournament. But DeLuca has recovered very well and is healthy for this year's playoffs. The reigning Star-Ledger West Jersey Player of the Year has 10 goals and eight assists this season. Sydney Rosa is a veteran striker for East Brunswick and has a penchant for scoring big goals in big games. Arielle Curtis has been the star of Hillsborough's breakout season, racking up 10 goals and 10 assists so far.
Others to watch: Julianna Franco, South Brunswick; Nicole Whitley, Freehold Township; Ashley Latona, Freehold Borough; Madison Farley, Brick Memorial; Kimberly Stratton, Sayreville
THE PICK
Hunterdon Central
